About the Location
Park Overview
Shadow Bay Park is a 113.5-acre public park located in Orlando, Florida. The park features diverse natural habitats, including rosemary scrub, longleaf pine forest, xeric oak scrub, wetlands and four ponds. This variety of ecosystems provides habitat for many native plant and animal species.
Trails and Nature
The park contains both paved and unpaved trails for walking, running and cycling. A paved loop trail circles the perimeter, while sandy footpaths wind through the interior scrub and forest areas. Several ponds within the park offer opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing.
Visitors may spot wading birds like herons and egrets, as well as turtles and small mammals.
Recreational Facilities
In addition to its natural areas, Shadow Bay Park provides recreational facilities including tennis courts, basketball courts, and a playground. The Lake Cane Tennis Center located within the park features 17 tennis courts and a pro shop.
Picnic areas with tables and grills are available for visitors to use.
Conservation Efforts
The park aims to preserve a slice of Florida's native habitats within an urban setting. Its scrub areas represent a remnant of the Lake Wales Ridge ecosystem, home to several rare and endangered plant species.
Shadow Bay Park balances conservation with providing outdoor recreation opportunities for the local community.
