Kamehameha Community Park
About Kamehameha Community Park
Park Overview
Found in Honolulu's Kalihi area, Kamehameha Community Park offers a breath of fresh air for both locals and visitors looking to enjoy some outdoor time. This spacious public recreational area has recently undergone renovations, giving its facilities and infrastructure a nice facelift.
Recreational Facilities
One of the perks of this park is its lighted sports areas that let you extend your game well into the evening (though heads up - one of the ball diamonds doesn't have lighting).
The paved volleyball courts are a definite plus, holding up well regardless of weather conditions. There's also a multi-purpose building on the grounds that hosts various activities year-round.
If you've got little ones in tow, they'll love the nice playground that's particularly well-suited for younger children. It's a great spot to let them burn off some energy while you catch a moment's rest.
Amenities
Fancy a picnic? The park offers some picnic tables, but they're somewhat limited and mostly sit under the open sky rather than in shaded areas. You might want to bring along some folding chairs if you're planning to stay awhile.
The clean restroom facilities are a welcome feature for longer visits. Since shade is somewhat scarce around the park, don't forget your hat, sunscreen, and maybe an umbrella for those sunny Hawaiian days.
Atmosphere
What's really refreshing about Kamehameha Community Park is its typically peaceful vibe. It rarely feels overcrowded, making it an excellent escape when you need some quiet time outdoors. The areas near the trees offer particularly beautiful spots to sit and enjoy the cool breeze.
Feeling hungry? The park's location near The Pastele Shop means you can easily grab a tasty lunch and enjoy an impromptu picnic on the grounds.
Park Administration
The park maintains an office where you can get information or assistance if needed. Whether you have questions about services, schedules, or need to report an issue, the staff is there to help.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 9:30PM.
Rules and Regulations
Kamehameha Community Park follows Honolulu County's standard rules, which designate specific areas for activities like camping, driving vehicles, and grilling. Note that this isn't a place to bring your four-legged friends as it's not dog-friendly.
The usual prohibitions apply: no defacing property, no foul language, no littering, and of course, no violent behavior. If you're planning a larger gathering, you'll need to secure permits for groups of more than 50 people, as well as for any sales or solicitations.
