About the Location

Historic Origins

Platt Gardens was established in 1927 by Union Pacific Railroad and named after Howard V. Platt, who was the general manager of the original Oregon Short Line Railroad at the time.

Designed by Spanish landscape architect Ricardo Espino, the gardens serve as a beautiful foreground to the historic Boise Depot.

Garden Features

The gardens feature a winding walkway that meanders through the grounds, offering visitors a peaceful stroll with views of the surrounding area.

Beautifully manicured greenery and seasonal flower displays provide color and visual interest throughout the year.

A tranquil koi pond adds a serene water element to the landscape, while benches placed along the pathways allow visitors to rest and enjoy the scenery.

A distinctive monument made of volcanic rock serves as a focal point within the gardens.

Scenic Views

Situated on a hillside on the Boise Bench, Platt Gardens offers panoramic views of downtown Boise and the surrounding mountains.

The elevated position makes it a popular spot for photography, especially for wedding and graduation pictures.

Visitor Information

The park is maintained by the City of Boise Parks and Recreation Department.

Its proximity to the historic Boise Depot adds to its appeal as a destination for both locals and tourists interested in the area's history and natural beauty.
