Trewyn Park
About Trewyn Park
A Piece of Peoria's Past
Nestled on South Idaho Street, Trewyn Park spans 21 acres under the watchful care of the Peoria Park District. As one of the district's original five parks, it's not just a green space - it's a living piece of local history, complete with a 110-year-old pavilion that has stood witness to generations of visitors.
What strikes you immediately about Trewyn is the peaceful balance of open meadows and mature shade trees. Despite its size, there's a surprising tranquility here - a little pocket of calm away from the busy streets, where you can actually hear yourself think.
Fresh Face for an Old Friend
The park recently underwent renovations costing $600,000. These renovations have improved Trewyn, making it a more inclusive and modern space. You can find a new shelter with electrical hookups, ADA-compliant walking paths that meander through the grounds, refreshed playground equipment, and basketball courts that have been given new life.
The playground features new equipment and rubber matting that provides crucial safety features. Best of all, it's now fully ADA-accessible, ensuring kids of all abilities can join in the fun - because playgrounds should be for everyone.
What's Here to Enjoy
Trewyn Park caters to just about everyone. Planning a family reunion or birthday celebration? The rentable pavilion and numerous picnic tables scattered throughout provide perfect spots for gatherings of any size.
For the active crowd, two basketball courts offer space for pickup games or practicing your jump shot. Bookworms will appreciate the library nearby - grab a novel and find a shady spot under one of the park's many trees. When nature calls, you won't have to cut your visit short thanks to the outdoor restrooms. And if you're a dog owner, your four-legged friend will have plenty of space to explore (just remember to bring those waste bags).
The park welcomes visitors from 5AM to 11PM year-round. Winter brings sledders to Trewyn's hill, while the splash pad offers cooling relief during summer months - especially popular with children.
Where Community Happens
Trewyn serves the South Peoria community as a gathering place. The grounds host various events throughout the seasons.
Sunday mornings at 11:30 AM, the 309 Market sets up shop, offering fresh fruits and vegetables to park visitors. It's these regular gatherings that cement Trewyn's place not just as a park, but as a vital thread in the fabric of South Peoria's community life.
