Natural Features

Van Horn Park is a public recreational area located in the Liberty Heights neighborhood of Springfield, Massachusetts. It is the second largest park in the city, spanning several acres of diverse landscape.

The park features a combination of open fields, wooded areas, and water bodies, providing visitors with a variety of natural environments to explore.

Water System

The park's centerpiece is the Van Horn Park Pond-River system, which consists of two man-made dams created to enhance recreational opportunities. The Upper Dam, constructed in 1957, is 550 feet long and has a capacity of 96 acre-feet.

The Lower Dam, also built in 1957, is 800 feet long with a capacity of 316 acre-feet. These water features not only add to the scenic beauty of the park but also serve practical purposes for water management and recreation.

Recreational Facilities

Van Horn Park offers a range of facilities for sports and outdoor activities. The park includes baseball diamonds and basketball courts, catering to sports enthusiasts.
