Phalen Regional Park

Natural Features

Phalen Regional Park is a 494-acre urban oasis located on the east side of Saint Paul, Minnesota. The park's centerpiece is Lake Phalen, a 198-acre lake that offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors.

The park features a diverse landscape, including rolling hills, fairly level areas, and native oak stands that have been preserved since the park's establishment. In recent years, efforts have been made to remove invasive plants and replace them with native species, enhancing the park's natural beauty and ecological value.

Recreation Opportunities

The lake is surrounded by a paved trail that stretches approximately 3 miles, providing a scenic route for walking, jogging, and biking.

Phalen Regional Park houses the only public beach in Saint Paul, complete with lifeguard services during the summer months. The park also includes an 18-hole golf course, which occupies slightly more than half of the park's acreage.

Community Events

The park serves as a gathering place for the community, hosting various events throughout the year. These include organized races, walks, triathlons, and cultural festivals such as the dragon boat festival and lantern festival.

During winter, the park transforms into a destination for cross-country skiing and ice skating.

Connectivity

Phalen Regional Park is connected to the larger regional trail system, including the Bruce Vento Trail and the Gateway State Trail, making it a key component of Saint Paul's green space network.

The park's location and amenities make it a popular destination for both local residents and visitors from surrounding areas, attracting an estimated 500,000 visitors annually.
