Edgemont Park has a cozy playground that's meant for kids aged 5-12, giving the little ones a safe spot to burn off energy and have some fun.

What really sets this park apart is the outdoor fitness equipment that both adults and teens can enjoy. You can find a variety of strength-training stations including a sit-up bench, pull-up bars, push-up bars, a lift station, and two core-building platforms - essentially an outdoor gym available to everyone.

For cardio exercise, there's a recumbent bicycle and a cross-country ski machine available while you enjoy the fresh air.

Amenities & Improvements

The park features a well-maintained picnic shelter with good lighting, which you can rent for family gatherings or community events. The improved lighting isn't just for ambiance - it helps keep the park safer during evening hours.

In recent years, Edgemont Park has seen several upgrades as part of broader community revitalization efforts. Local organizations have partnered with Durham Parks and Recreation to make the space more inviting and secure for everyone who visits.

A Bit of History

The park sits in what was once the heart of the Edgemont community, an area established in the early 20th century by Julian Carr.

This neighborhood originally housed workers from the Golden Belt Manufacturing Company and Durham Hosiery Mills. The park itself is relatively young, having been established in the early 1980s on the site of a former community center that had stood there since 1943.

Community Spirit

Today, Edgemont Park has become something of a community project, with local groups like Partners Against Crime (PAC 5) actively working to transform it into a more welcoming space for families and neighbors to gather.

These grassroots efforts help make the park a meeting place where neighbors can connect through various activities.
