Natural Features

Amazon Creek meanders through the heart of the park, creating a serene backbone for this urban oasis. The creek and its surrounding wetlands aren't just pretty to look at - they're bustling ecosystems that local wildlife calls home. Winding paths invite you to explore these natural areas at your own pace, where you might spot native plants and curious critters going about their day.

If you're visiting in the evening, prepare for nature's soundtrack - the wetlands come alive with a symphony of frogs that start their nightly chorus as the sun sets. Mature trees line the trails, creating pockets of shade and framing picturesque views that change with the seasons.

Recreation Facilities

For the sports enthusiasts, Amazon Park doesn't disappoint. Ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and soccer fields offer plenty of options to break a sweat. During summer months, the outdoor swimming pool complex features four distinct pools. There's something for everyone: an Olympic diving pool complete with a slide, an Olympic-sized lap pool for serious swimmers, a children's pool with its own slide, and a shallow wading pool where the little ones can splash safely. After your swim, you can relax in the hot tub or grab a snack at the modest concession stand.

Dog parents will appreciate the 3-acre off-leash area where pups of all sizes can run free, as well as a separate 0.5-acre area reserved for smaller dogs under 25 pounds. Both areas feature covered sections for those rainy Oregon days and connect seamlessly to the trail system, with plenty of waste bag stations to keep things clean.

If outdoor workouts are your thing, check out the outdoor exercise area with its collection of fitness equipment positioned conveniently alongside the trails.

Community Amenities

The park houses two community hubs - the Amazon Community Center and the Hilyard Community Center - where locals gather for classes ranging from high-energy fitness sessions to meditative pottery making and everything in between.

Kids flock to the recently upgraded playground with its modern, imagination-sparking equipment. The dinosaur structure is a definite favorite, along with the fire engine, elevated walkways, secure swings, and fort-like play area. Parents will appreciate the cushioned artificial turf that replaces traditional wood chips, making tumbles less traumatic and the space more accessible. Picnic tables scattered around the playground make it easy to extend your visit through lunchtime.

You can find clean restroom facilities conveniently located around the park, including near the playground and at the pool complex, where changing rooms and showers are also available.

On Thursdays, the park transforms as local vendors set up for the weekly farmer's market, bringing fresh produce and handcrafted goods to this already vibrant community space.

Trails and Paths

The North and South Amazon Running Trail stretches for 5.5 miles through the park, its bark chip surface providing a cushioned path that's gentle on the joints - a detail your knees will thank you for during longer jogs. This natural-feeling trail connects to other pathways, creating endless route possibilities for walkers, joggers, and runners.

If you prefer smoother terrain, the park's paved paths accommodate everything from bikes to roller skates to leisurely strolls. These well-maintained routes connect different areas of the park and extend into Eugene's broader trail network, making it easy to explore beyond the park's boundaries. The trail design makes it possible for people of all mobility levels to enjoy the park's scenery.

From quiet moments by the creek to energetic games on the sports fields, Amazon Park combines natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and community spaces in one location.
