About the Location

History and Development

Avondale Promenade Park is a neighborhood park located in Houston, Texas. The park was developed on a small commercial lot in the Montrose area, transforming it into a green space for community use.

The park's development was supported by a $1 million Urban Outdoor Recreation Grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission. This funding allowed for the creation of various amenities designed to be accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities.

Design and Architecture

Designed by landscape architects from White Oak Studio, the park features Craftsman-style architecture to blend in with the surrounding neighborhoods. This design choice helps the park integrate seamlessly into the existing urban landscape of Montrose.

Memorial Features

One of the park's notable features is the Montrose Remembrance Garden, which was relocated to find a permanent home within Avondale Promenade Park. This garden serves as a tribute to victims of hate crimes, adding a meaningful and reflective element to the park's layout.
