Homer F. Briggs Park
About Homer F. Briggs Park
A Bit of History
What we now know as Homer F. Briggs Park wasn't always called that. It started out as Oaks Avenue Pioneer Park until 1987, when it was renamed to honor Homer F. Briggs, a dedicated local City Councilman.
Spread across six acres of Ontario greenspace, this park offers a variety of amenities for visitors.
Places for Play
If you've got kids in tow, you're in luck. There's a small children's play area for the little ones and a larger playground where school-aged children can burn off some energy.
All the playground equipment is fresh and modern - brand new facilities that replaced the older ones. Instead of the bark ground cover from years past, there's now memory foam flooring that gives kids a soft landing if they take a tumble.
For the Sports Enthusiasts
Athletic types will feel right at home here. The park has three baseball fields, a basketball court complete with chain nets, and soccer fields where you can kick around a ball or catch a casual game.
On weekends, the energy picks up as little league baseball games fill the fields, bringing the community together to cheer on young players.
Horses Welcome
One thing that makes this park stand out is its equestrian area. A horse trail circles the entire park, giving local riders a dedicated space to enjoy their time with their four-legged companions.
Paths to Wander
The walking trails here have become a favorite for locals looking to get some steps in. You'll often see people strolling these paths, enjoying some exercise in the open air.
Outdoor Workout Spot
In the middle of the park, you'll come across a newer addition - a mini gym area with outdoor fitness equipment. It's perfect if you want to mix up your workout routine with some fresh air.
Picnic Paradise
When it's time to relax, there are plenty of options. You'll come across picnic areas scattered throughout with both covered and uncovered tables, plus BBQ grills for cooking up lunch or dinner.
Planning something bigger? The reservable picnic shelters come with electricity and are ideal for birthday celebrations or family get-togethers.
One of the best features has to be the abundance of large trees that dot the landscape, offering natural shade that makes picnicking comfortable even on warmer days.
Practical Stuff
The park has all the basics covered with clean restroom facilities on-site. When you arrive, you'll come across off-street parking with a full lot, so finding a spot shouldn't be an issue.
And yes, your furry friends are welcome! The park is dog-friendly with plenty of grassy areas for leashed pets, but there isn't a dedicated off-leash section.
