Cottonwood Park
About Cottonwood Park
Park Overview
Located in west Boise, Cottonwood Park is an 8-acre neighborhood green space that offers a break from city life. As you wander along the meandering walking path, you'll discover yourself surrounded by maturing trees that cast welcome shadows on hot Idaho days, creating a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from urban hustle.
Recreation Areas
The park offers plenty of open space where you can toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or simply spread out a blanket and relax. Basketball courts provide a spot for pickup games or practicing your jump shot when you're in the mood for something more active.
The expansive turf areas work perfectly for impromptu soccer practices or casual games with friends. If you're planning a small gathering, picnic areas are available, however keep in mind they're positioned a bit away from the playground - which might be a plus if you're looking for a quieter spot to eat.
Inclusive Playground
The playground at Cottonwood is designed with accessibility in mind. The play equipment is designed for children between 5-12 years old and sits atop bonded rubber material that provides a soft landing while also being navigable for those using mobility devices.
Just a heads up: the playground doesn't have much shade, so equipment can get pretty hot during sunny days. You might want to do a quick touch-test before letting little ones climb aboard during peak summer heat.
Playground Features
The recently updated playground includes elements that appeal to different senses and abilities. Kids can challenge themselves on climbing walls, explore the finger maze for tactile stimulation, ring bells for auditory fun, or peer through binoculars to take in the surroundings.
The Ten Spin accommodates up to 10 children simultaneously. There are also ten-foot swings for kids who want to swing higher than usual.
Additional Attractions
The zip line swing is popular, often with children waiting for their turn. Two different slides and various climbing structures ensure there's something for different age groups and adventure levels.
If you're bringing very young children, note that the playground design works best for kids over 3 years old, as some equipment might be a bit challenging for toddlers. Comfortable seating areas near the playground let parents keep a watchful eye while kids explore.
Facilities
Restrooms are available throughout the day - always a crucial amenity when spending hours at a park with children. The grounds are well-maintained and clean, which adds to the overall pleasant experience.
One small challenge: parking can fill up during popular times, especially weekends and summer evenings. If the lot is full, you can usually find street parking along the main road, just a short walk away.
