About Manitou Park

A Shady Retreat in Southeast Boise

Situated in an established Southeast Boise neighborhood, Manitou Park spans 11 acres of green space that feels like a natural sanctuary. What might catch your eye first are the massive, mature trees casting pools of deep shade around the grounds - a true blessing during those hot Idaho summer days. With its large open areas and tranquil atmosphere, this park provides a nice escape from the busy city.

Get Your Game On

If you're the active type, Manitou offers several sports options. The park has tennis courts alongside dedicated pickleball courts that are popular with neighborhood players. Pickleball enthusiasts will appreciate the four dedicated courts plus two combo tennis/pickleball courts that accommodate players of all abilities. There's also a basketball court for when you're in the mood to shoot some hoops.

Heads up on the court schedule - following community input, the tennis and pickleball courts now operate Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., staying closed on Sundays and Mondays. This schedule helps balance recreational needs with the peace and quiet neighborhood residents deserve. Fair warning: during popular hours, you might find yourself waiting for a pickleball court as they tend to fill up quickly.

Family Fun Zone

Got kids in tow? The park features a well-maintained playground suitable for children ages 2-12, complete with a wood chip surface for softer landings. Little ones seem to love exploring the various play structures.

When it's time for a family picnic or gathering with friends, you can take advantage of the covered picnic shelter available on a first-come basis. Picnic tables are thoughtfully placed across the park, many tucked under the shade of those gorgeous trees.

The large open field gives you plenty of room to toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or simply spread out a blanket and enjoy the day. It's suitable for many different outdoor activities.

For the Dog Lovers

Manitou Park is a favorite among the dog-walking crowd, with plenty of space for your four-legged friends to get some exercise. While it's not an off-leash area (and yes, the leash laws are enforced rather diligently), the expansive grassy areas give your pup room to explore. You'll come across dog waste bags and trash bins around the park to help keep the space clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Seasonal Notes

During winter months, the permanent restrooms and drinking fountains typically close, but don't worry - portable restrooms are provided so you can still enjoy the park year-round.

One small drawback: parking can be limited, especially when the pickleball courts are in full swing. If the lot is full, you might need to look for street parking nearby or consider walking or biking to the park instead.
