About the Location
History and Location
Established in 1890, Van Cleve Park was originally known as the 2nd Ward Park before being renamed in 1895 to honor Civil War General Horatio Van Cleve.
The park spans approximately 7 acres and is located in southeast Minneapolis, near the University of Minnesota.
Recreational Facilities
The park features a colorful playground and tot lot that received new equipment in 2022, making it more ADA compliant with improved lighting along the park's southwest path.
During summer months, visitors can enjoy the wading pool with zero-depth entry, which opens on Memorial Day weekend and closes on Labor Day.
Winter brings seasonal activities with ice-skating, hockey, and broomball rinks for community enjoyment.

The park includes spaces for picnicking and displays of public art throughout the grounds.
A recreation center serves as a community hub, offering various gathering spaces including a community kitchen, computer lab, craft room, gymnasium, and meeting rooms.
